Sharing these from the front yard.
These beautiful lilacs grow in the front yard, a small but older bush in the far corner.
For some reason I have been forgetting about them, even though I love lilacs.
We have had a break in the rain, with one warm day. Not wanting to sound like I am complaining about the sun, but 60 degrees to 85 degrees is a big jump. Warmer than expected, especially for too much weed pulling! But in the warmth of the sun, and the frustration regarding how many weeds grow, even where food will not...........it was time to take some strong action.
This mess is herbs and strawberries, but mostly weeds, weeds, and more weeds. This early spring, there has not been enough weekend to get this weeded between the raindrops. It was time to try something new and or different. How about.......
Start with loosen the weeds, then pile them up, cover and compost in place. We are also going to mulch with shredded brown paper, mixed with the grass clippings (for the short time we have a lawn). Later on in the drier part of summer (and the lawn has grown dormant) the mulch will change to cardboard pieces cut to fit the paths between what is growing. I will want some of the weekend for relaxing!
The raspberries are doing well, with new shoots coming up everywhere! Time to cut deep with a shovel blade and pull these out. Otherwise they will be growing around the table in no time!
On a sad note, the rhubarb is all but dead. I have cinder blocks and I am going to make a raised bed and transplant those guys. Lots of compost and new dirt, that drains well. I also think the cinder blocks will heat up during the day and add warmth to help with growing. Another experiment to try.
As always, thanks for taking a moment to stop and say hello.
I appreciate your time and your comments.

Sorry to read about the rhubarb...:(
such beautiful Lilacs,, lovely tablescape too,, so sad about the rhubarb,, its such a tricky thing to establish, once it does its a crazy fast grower though isn't it.
We just used our first batch of compost, 2 years in the making! I like your idea of just putting the compost out there in the yard. Very convenient.
We had a ton of rain, and the weeds grew like crazy. Now we need the rain, and the weeds are still growing.
Love the lilacs. Ours are finished blooming for the year.
raspberries, now that is something i wish I would have planted. So jealous right now
I just happened here from Brenda's blog; love those lilacs. Really interested in you Hearth and Soul Hop; will have to study this. Not too sure exactly how it works, but will be back.
Rita
Thanks for linking up. I would gladly take some rain for you!
Love your lilacs. Reminds me of childhood.
I miss the lilac bush from my childhood. The leaves are great for making whistles.
You'll have plenty to keep you busy there and that is a great idea about the mulch piles.
Your lilacs are beautiful! Sorry to hear about your rhubarb! Will you start planting a new one soon?
Wish I can plant some raspberries here! Have a nice gardening week, Melynda. Enjoy your glass of iced lemon tea by your comfy spot!
Your garden sounds wonderful. Raspberries and lilacs - what a gorgeous scent is must have!
