Cookbook list, a stumbling block

I have been fortunate these past couple of weeks. Approximately 25 additional cookbooks have found their way into my collection. This might completely fill my huge shelf, and then again, maybe not. This big old shelf is from an aquarium store. It was built strong, and still strong. Perfect for my collection.

these little guys are fun to decorate with...

There has been a stumbling block to using this bounty of books. That is, finding the one I want or need. At this point I have no other choice, I really must organize them. That will save so much time, with less searching, frustration and more time to cook or just read them for enjoyment.

Oops, when did that happen.....

A quick glance reveals that the books fall into these categories.

UPDATE! Once the organizing began, it was clear that I had no idea of the variety of the books in my collection, most likely because of the lack of organization. I have (so far) been accurate to know and remember what I already own.  A nice benefit, then when I come across a book I already own and enjoy, I can pick it up again, for one of my girls.

However the categories needed to be revised.

Bread / Baking - should be: Bread / Baking / Desserts

General Cooking - should be:  General Cooking / Make Ahead / Healthy

Italian Cuisine - should be:  Cuisines, Italian / Vietnamese / Chinese / French

Preserving Foods - should be:  Preserving / Homemade Pantry Items / Cooks Gardening

Gift Cooking / Holidays

Single Ingredient

Old / Collectible

Unusual / Odd Lot - should be:  Themes, Ice cream / Fish / Soups / BBQ

Community Grange / Church

still waiting for a home....

I guess you know what I will be doing today, but look,

there is some room left over after all ! That must be a sign from above, that this collection is not complete........

done and the shelves are labeled , that's better.

As always, thanks for taking a moment to stop and say hello.
I appreciate your time and your comments.

Overwhelming!!! I say, just leave them where they are, enjoy seeing them there and when you need a recipe, Google it. But that's just me. Hope you're having a Happy Sunday!

When you're done at your house Melynda, you can come organize the cookbooks at mine. It's a task I keep putting off but really, I can't put it off much longer. Sigh....... Hope you're having a lovely Sunday.

Good morning Melynda, I only have three categories on my shelf, Baking, Cooking and Others! But I know each one of my books! The only thing left to do is to make a list of the books that I have. My three sisters and myself thought of doing that and exchanged the list with each other so that we won't end up buying the same book which we already owned either for Christmas or birthdays! But then, the list never came out...your post has reminded me of this. Will have to do it soon, my birthday is coming in a couple of months...Ha! Ha!

I would never find anything even with the organization.. I have about 15 cookbooks and they all were gifts but I still get intrigued by recipes I see on line so I feel I have millions of cookbooks...lol...

My cookbooks mean a lot to me too. My husband and I bought new book shelves for our office a few years ago, and reorganized all our books. Looks like a real library now. I have roughly the same cookbook categories you do. And within my catagories, I also have my books arranged by size and color, just because I'm kind of nerdy that way.

A wonderful spring cleaning project and your newly organized shelves look great.
