Sweet-Sour Kidney Bean Cabbage Slaw
not cooked from: Sunset Salads
the introduction:
This is a tasty, one dish substitute for a crisp cabbage cole slaw and a baked bean casserole.
Try it served with hot dogs or ham slices grilled over the open coals.
1 can kidney beans,
3 cups shredded cabbage
1/4 cup chopped sweet pickles
1/4 cup sliced green onions
1/2 cup golden raisins
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1/3 cup chili sauce
1/2 cup mayonnaise
Salt to taste
Drain and chill kidney beans. Toss together with cabbage, sweet pickles, green onions, raisins, celery seed and a dressing made by combining the chili sauce and mayonnaise. Salt to taste.
Makes 6 servings
Lets take a look at some good stuff, just wander this way.

I enjoy curry, especially a milder dish. When the lovely Joy said she would increase the spices next time, I knew this one was for me. Look here.

Call me crazy but this one doesn't sound half bad...lol....
Melynda, thanks so much for the shout-out!! And you can keep your Sweet-Sour Kidney Bean Cabbage Slaw, lol! Have a great day my friend.
Oh my. They certainly have some interesting combinations in that cookbook. I'm going to have to check out these links you shared. I already saw Brenda's yummy cheesecake :) Thanks for linking my muffins and have a fabulous day!
Thanks for the mention! I hate to say it but I'm with Donnie, I would for sure make this salad. I think I would change the kidney beans to garbanzos
Great looking recipes! Thanks for the feature!
I always enjoy your Wednesday wanderings -- so much great stuff to investigate -- thanks for including me.
Hi Melynda, I couldn't make up my mind about this salad, chili sauce with mayonnaise is actually quite good! It's the combination of the rest of the ingredients, which don't sound good together!
Thank you for the link! Hope you enjoy trying this out on your Sunday Cafe. Have a lovely day! :)
Leave out the raisins and I'm there!
I can always count on you! That BBQ beef looks amazing and i know my husband would love it with cole slaw, no kidney beans or raisins.
The salad itself doesn't sound too bad - it's the dressing that's really gross! Thank you for including me among all these delicious recipes!
Nothing like combining two dishes, that shouldn't be combined!
Thank you for all the great links to those wonderful recipes! And thank you for making me smile with the one you are not eating - I think I have to agree - I'm not sure any one of those ingredients in the Kidney Bean Cabbage Slaw should ever be combined!
Kidney, Bean, Cabbage, Slaw. All the things I DON'T want in my food! (Not a cabbage fan)
Hmmm, I think you should be picking on that book. I don't think I've ever seen a cookbook with so many kooky recipes.
I look forward to checking out all your links--thanks for posting them.
Hi Melynda,
You are so sweet to mention my Lemon Broccoli Chicken on your Wednesday Features. Now for that Salad, the whole thing looks pretty good except for the Beans and I think I would use them as a side dish, but I would like the rest. Your books are so much fun! Thank for including me in your day!
Best Wishes
Miz Helen
