Friday

Warning:  this blog post is extremely self promoting!

Today is my birthday. It comes every year. Right on time, just like clockwork. But I am always amazed at the caring my family bestows upon me, on this day. You see, I am a very fortunate woman. It all started last night.

On Thursdays we have what I have grown to call "Granddaughter Thursday". When the evening was over, and I took her home, there were presents to start the celebration. Her folks had a bouquet of flowers and a really cool cookbook for my collection waiting. As most know (hello Holly!) I love cookbooks, and have a couple or hundred in my computer room. Maybe I should call it the cookbook room where my computer sits on a desk, but that is too long of a name for such a small room.

I brought the flowers home and placed them into a large pitcher. Just so you know, a large glass pitcher makes a great vase on your dining room table. And I showed the cookbook to Honey. Even he thought it was very cool (yes, we still use that word around here). We finished our evening with music and sharing of what each did that day. Which brings us to this morning.......

These are nibbled rose petals.

From this rose.....

From this lovely bouquet.....

Nibbled by this cat, who only looks innocent, all roses get nibbled in this house.

Here is the cookbook, it will be fun to read and choose a recipe to share.

And these were waiting this morning, 2 gifts and 2 cards. Apparently the cat thought he needed to participate due to his nibbling issues.

Fresh coffee and birthday presents, what a great way to start the day! There is more planned, a family luncheon on Saturday and a nice weekend to enjoy. I am a very fortunate woman, surrounded by family love and caring.

Here is what Honey (and the cat) gave me,

Funny he asked my last night, "why don't you have any MFK books?". I told him, I just don't - yet. Little did I know!

And look what I was handed to preview, before it comes out. The new biography on MFK Fisher.

Recently I have had the good fortune to get to know Anna, MFK Fisher's daughter. Funny where you life will take you. This is her copy, and she thought I would enjoy it also.

As always thanks for taking a moment to stop and say hello.
I appreciate your visits and your comments.

Happy Bday Sweet Pea! Looks like it should be a great one. My cat brought me a dead lizard for my birthday last year, the love just doesn't stop.

Happy Birthday, Melynda! Your family is so sweet! Beautiful presents! One can never get enough of cookbooks, NEVER! :)
The book on MFK Fisher looks very interesting, I did a google on her after reading your previous post, she sure lead a full and interesting life. Your cat sure made it known that even though it is not her day, she wants some attention too!
Wishing you a great weekend with the family and enjoy your birthday! Hugs!

What an opportune time for me to find your blog (although I don't believe for one minute that sweet and innocent little cat ate your roses!!). First, happy birthday! Now to say I've been a fan of M.F.K. Fisher for decades!! In fact, I just changed my blog header. It was of a tangerine on a snowy window sill inspired by one of her musings when she was in Paris. I am thrilled to hear that a new biography is coming out.

A birthday should be celebrated for an entire month!!

Best,
Bonnie
