Tuna Banana and Pineapple Salad
not cooked from:
Sunset Salad Book
The introduction:
If you wish to serve a "conversation piece" here's a salad
that fits into that category.
The combination is unusual - and a pleasant surprise.
3 bananas
1 c drained diced pineapple
1/4 c celery
1/4 t salt
3/4 c salad dressing (I think the reference is for Miracle Whip or like product)
2 T lemon juice
1 can (7oz) tuna, flaked
lettuce leaves
Peel and dice the bananas and combine with diced pineapple. Mix celery, salt, salad dressing and lemon juice. Fold in fruit, the add drained and flaked tuna. Serve on crisp lettuce leaves.
Makes 6-8 servings
I have an interesting collection of "finds" from wandering, lets take a look shall we?

Do you have a ham bone in the freezer waiting? If not grab a couple of ham hocks at the market and make this!

Thanks for the mention. The salad you featured is really very good with a few changes, fresh pineapple and Albacore tuna packed in water. Sorry, I like it.
I'm thinking I need to start posting "I made it Thursdays" and start making all of your WWANEW recipes. How gross would that be? I just can't imagine spending the money on the groceries only to throw the stuff out. Even I'm not that hard up for a decent post.
Thanks for the feature Melynda! I'm sure y'all are gonna love, love, love the strawberry and dumplings :)
That salad does sound like a conversation piece ;) those strawberry dumplings sound good! I can't wait for strawberry season.
Tuna and bananas? I cannot imagine how these would taste like! I'll skip this one too! Seems like a weird combination to me! :)
Melynda, I'm glad that even though you're so busy at work you had time to post this today, lol! Pineapples and bananas, yes. But tuna mixed in? Ummm....no thanks! Have a good one!
I think I'm with everyone else about the tuna...lol.
Thank you so much for mentioning my post about the yeast rolls - so kind of you!! And I'm happy to see so many other great recipes on there to give me some good ideas! I cannot wait for strawberry season!! :)
So nice to meet you!
My goodness - that sounds awful! I eat odd combination but this just made me gag. GREAT FIND!
Now that combination is just wrong.
I love everything in that salad, but it absolutely doesn't go together and compliment each other in any way.
The only thing that salad is missing is jello! I can imagine the tuna and pineapple together, or the banana and pineapple, but put the three together and I have to say--No.
Thanks for mentioning my burgers.
As usual, there's nothing in that recipe that really offends me, and I'd try it if someone served it to me. But adding pineapple and bananas really does seem like a waste of perfectly good tuna salad.
You always make up for your WWANEW recipe with some delicious finds! My tastebuds are ready for strawberry season! Thanks for the mention.
The salad is really interesting and the other recipes links too. I'll definitely try this.
I know hubby would NOT eat this either. He hates tuna.
My mom adds grated apples to her tuna salad but no way could I eat tuna with bananas and/or pineapple. Off to check out your "finds". I really like that part of your WWANEW posts. Take care.
Hi Melynda-This recipe is not too bad, if the pineapple and the bananas were in one section, and the tuna salad on another section of the plate.
Believe it or not some old timer folks still prefer salads like these.
Working in a country club on the lunch shift, the tuna platter was always a popular one, with fruit on one portion, cottage cheese, in the middle, and egg salad, tuna salad surrounding the platter. Actually, this type of salad platter still exists, but not mixed together. That I would not like!
Nope dont like this combination, love tuna on my salad with italian black olives balsamic vinegar and EVOO> no fruits for me! lol this was a fun read for sure! I love he comments here
Loving your blog. I can't wait for next Wednesday!!
Good Morning Melynda Sweetie...
A beautiful share today. I will have to try this salad. Unusual is definitely the word for this one.
Strawberry dumplings, oh my. I am going to have to take some time and go read some of these. What treasures for sure.
Hope you have a glorious Thursday sweetie. Many hugs and much love, Sherry
Don't you wonder how they dream some of this up? I'm new to your blog and after I read this entry decided to browse through some of your others. I so glad I did. I really like the food and recipes you feature here. I'll definitely be back. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary
Tuna and pineapple? Gross! That is too funny. I've come across a lot of weird recipes in those old Sunset books!
Thanks for the features. I'm pretty amazed by the unpleasant recipes you are finding. What were they thinking.
