What we ARE NOT eating, Wednesday, Molded Tuna and Cabbage Salad

Another Wednesday, another recipe that won't be made.....ahh life is good!

Molded Tuna and Cabbage Salad
not made from:
Sunset Salad Book

"Lime flavored gelatin makes a colorful wrapping for layers of tuna, cabbage, pickle and hard cooked eggs".

3/4 c boiling water
1 package (3 oz) lime flavored gelatin
1/2 c cold water
2 T vinegar
2 T lemon juice
1/2 t salt
1 can (7 oz) funa, flaked
1 c shredded cabbage
1/4 c chopped dill pickle
3 hard cooked eggs, sliced
crisp greens for garnish

Pour hot water over flavored gelatin and stir until dissolved, stir in cold water, vinegar, lemon juice and salt. Chill until syrupy. Arrange flaked tuna in the bottom of a 1/1/2 quart ring mold or loaf pan, pour 1/2 of the cooled gelatin mixture into the mold over the tuna. Chill until firm. In the following order, arrange over the firm gelatin two layers each of the cabbage, dill pickle, and the sliced egg. Pour over the remaining half of the gelatin mixture. Chill until firm, about 2 hours. Unmold on greens. Makes 6 servings.

Lets see what we can eat, let's wander...........

I think I've said this before, but anything with "molded" in the title should have a name change, maybe to Gelled or Sculpted or something like that.

Also, everyone knows tuna and cabbage go better with lemon jello. ;)

Melynda, I'm literally laughing out loud. I HAVE to go through my cookbooks and find something disgusting for this, I just have to. I'm still laughing as I'm typing this........I love Annie's comment, "everyone knows tuna and cabbage go better with lemon jello." Thanks for another disgusting post!!! :o)

That does sound very interesting. It won't be made at my house either. The other recipes sound delicious though.

Love the other recipes you have featured - they all look yummy - but wow -Molded Tuna and Cabbage Salad - with hard boiled egg? Who thought of that?? I'm so glad you didn't make it!! And I like Annie's comment too :)

You know I love you right? I truly do. However, everytime you post about stuff you're not going to eat, well, it's like a traffic accident. I don't want to look but I just have to. I just can't believe that people used to eat this stuff. Ok, secretly, I wait all week for you to post this. I look forward to it. I am most ashamed to admit that. Love you!

Melynda, once again, I am so happy you aren't serving this. Can you believe that someone actually published that recipe? You have outdone yourself this week. :)

I love Annie's comment about the lemon jello, as well. That was quite witty of her!

Melynda,

Thanks for including me in your post. This is too funny. I seem to remember a few recipes like this from my childhood.

LOL Melly! I love it! Seriously I cannot believe the molded salad. I am a first generation american and if something was in a mold, it was an aspic and it tasted savory, not this green shaking stuff with tuna in it! Eeeewwww! Didnt you just LOVE kanaka's mac and cheese! I love her too, so glad to have recently hooked up with her! I wanted to let you know as well that I am giving you a Stylish Blogger Award because YOu soooo wicked rock! Stop by on Friday at a Moderate Life to pick it up! Hugs! alex

It's funny to see what people used to pass off as meals. I can see why you're NOT eating it. Very funny!

I bet if I used sugar free jello, I could use this for my diabetic husband. Actually, it's a low carb dish...but doesn't sound appealing to me. Interesting...
