What we ARE NOT eating, Wednesday

December is a month, meant for lots of great home cooking and old time family favorites! However something we are not eating are these little finger jello's, popular way back when. For me, I think it is the artificial color/flavor thing. And besides I can't run liver all the time!

The Crown Jewel
"to be eaten with your fingers. cut them into 1 inch squares"
from: What's been cooking in Oregon
Jo Ann Blanchard & Kathleen Hansen

4 envelopes unflavored gelatin
2 packages flavored gelatin - 3 oz box
3 c boiling water
1 c heavy cream

In a large bowl, combine gelatin, and boiling water. Stir until dissolved. Add cream, stir well. Pour into a 9X13 pan and chill. Cut into 1 inch squares to serve.

ew ew ew.

I used to tease my wife about the disproportionate number of jell-o recipes in her collection of church cookbooks.

Her retaliation was bringing a jellied carrot and raisin salad to Thanksgiving :-)

Ugh, that's a lot of gelatin. Makes my teeth squeak just thinking about it.

My mom used to make these for us when I was a kid and I never learned to like them or Kool-aid or bologne sandwiches or...The 70's were a bad time for food.

I'm almost ashamed to admit it (and please - nobody throw any Jello at me!) - but I love the stuff, especially with Cool Whip! A church potluck wouldn't be a potluck without it!
