A day at the Vancouver Market, a slow Saturday

Today was get reacquainted with the house day. I did my usual Saturday chores, changed the linens, mopped the kitchen and vacuumed the living room. It is still hot, too hot to cook, but not to hot to get back in the direction of the kitchen. So I got it sparkling clean, because I knew cooking would come back sooner rather than later.

We had made plans to "do something" with Son and Granddaughter. I was not certain what until this morning when the idea to go to the Vancouver Farmers Market floated into my idea bank, after the second cup of coffee. The house was quiet; the coffee tasty and, well you know, I love mornings like that.

The two of them arrived about 10:30 and we set off. We had a good time, after walking around and seeing all there was to see, we set our sights on some lunch. A corn dog for Papa and Miss Olivia, Gyros sandwich for Caine (Son) and a homemade tamale for me. We were fortunate to find seats in the shade. Then Caine took off to find some kettle corn to take home for the Misses (who was not able to go, out of town) and surprised everyone by bring back dipped ice cream bars with sprinkles.

We did not pick up any produce to take home, we really were not prepared and really went just to get out and walk around. I did find that cute red sign to hang in the kitchen. Then it was off to the fountains and getting wet. Let me tell you, there was just as many adults getting wet as kids! The answer is yes, I was among the wet adults, we all claimed it was "for the grandkids".

Then home and a bit of a rest. Papa had to go to work, and I went for a hair cut. Something different for me. Short and spiky.

Then over to pick these cherry plums at the Son's house. Olivia was a big help. We stood in the back of her Dad's truck, I picked and she placed them in the basket. They are now about to go into a kettle with 4 cinnamon sticks and a cup of Port wine. Simmer for an hour and then rest over night. Tomorrow will be jam making day.

After the week of heat, this is nice. It is still warm, but this is our summer. I have not done any work in the garden area except to pick a few raspberries that I ate for breakfast and a hand full of blueberries that were added to to bag in the freezer. And now the water is on. So it really has been a nice relaxed quiet day. Thanks, I needed that.

As always thanks for taking the time to stop by, and I hope your weekend is just as refreshing.

That sounds like a great jam recipe.
